Chris Ray was born and raised in Orange County California. At a very young age Chris was intrigued with art, fashion and the ocean. At the age of 17 Chris started traveling as a professional body boarder competing all over the globe as a professional athlete placing in the top 40 internationally and in the top 10 continentally. During this journey Chris appeared in vast media publications around the world and had a professional signature model that sold globally.
It wasn’t until 2009 when Chris wanted to pursue a carrier in hairdressing. What sparked the interest was a conversation he had with two salon owners in West Hollywood, Alberto Borrelli and Steve Lococo both owners of a well renowned salon named B2V salon. Alberto and Steve knew Chris was artistic by his style and his abilities. While in their conversation Steve went aside to grab a pair of scissors to have Chris hold. Right away they both saw something different in Chris and told him to pursue a career as a hair stylist. By 2010 Chris enrolled into cosmetology school at Golden West College in Huntington Beach California.
By this time Chris regained purpose and identity after ending a 14 year carrier as a professional athlete. In the springtime of 2011 Chris graduated from cosmetology school and started assisting part time at B2V salon before he started his journey with his mentor Howard Jones. In the summer of 2011 Chris started his full time assistant position with Howard and this is when Chris’s passion started to flourish. Howard Jones is a well established salon owner in Dana Point, CA and co-owner of Unite Euortherapy. Chris assisted Howard 3 days a week and worked behind the chair two days week along with assisting Untie’s education and creative team 2 days a week in San Diego, CA.
Throughout this time Chris built a reputable name within Unties company that rewarded him opportunities styling hair for the Country Music Channel TV hit series “Bayou Billionaires” along with other great experiences styling for Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, The Emmy’s, MTV’s Video Music Awards, The Grammy’s and the Academy Awards.
In the fall of 2014 Chris wanted to seek different opportunities and started creating his own brand and image. Chris began new opportunities by working in different salons helping build education platforms for their in-salon programs and traveling as a platform artist. By 2017 Chris partnered with an independent education platform called Beyond Basic Edu. Today, Chris works with Ulta Beauty as a Educator overseeing one salon location in Upland California helping mentor salon staff and working behind the chair as there top producer. When not working with Ulta Chris travels part time with the new and popular “Elevate Hair” platform. Chris has been a featured artist by being an opening act in partners with “Elevate Hair” for Hairbraind’s platform “Teach-In” along with being an invitee to other salons as a guest artist for look and learn education pop up events.
Chris continues to stay relevant in receiving extensive training with Sassoon, Toni and Guy, Zagat Academy along with other educators/mentors such as: Howard Jones, Michael M. Haase, Dennis Kil, Kevin Kahan, Paul Merritt, Nick Arrojo, Lupe Voss, Gino Chapman, Ricardo Dinis, Gerard Scarpaci, Traci Sakosits, Richie Rivera, Mike Varela, Dj Muldoon, Ira Pope Sage, James Mould, Ben Crase, Zak Mascolo along with many others.
